Pictograms and Callligrams

Pictograms

We were tasked to create a pictogram for 3 aspects of curling, in 20 minutes. These were my (unimpressive) designs:

Pictograms are usually in one colour, and are symbols or shapes which represent a recognisable thing. They are often stylised and are commonly used in infographics. Pictograms are multi-lingual.

Calligrams

Calligrams are typography distorted into the shape of an image - something simple like the word apple in the shape of the fruit, or something more complex like the image below (from etsy.com). The typography can be hand drawn, or created in Illustrator freehand with the pen or pencil, or by distorting type (e.g. with type of a path and envelope distort).
